Dyana, I thought you are the primary applicant. In your case - yeah, you are free to use EAD once you get it. It's your husband who should be maintaining 180 days, "same or similar", etc. I got my EAD on 11th week (I am primary applicant). Some people get earlier, some later.
You have good chance of approval, because we are current and I suspect we will be current several months from now. I-485 approval is like a lottery. It can be approved in 1 month or your application can rot for years. Lottery :)

This whole idea of linking GC to probable purchasing homes..is insane!

The 700Bn or whatever the final number is not entirely a drain.....
the thing with all these exotic securities is not that they are completely worthless but that there is no market for these right now and hence are illiquid - so if someone had the ability to keep these securities for a long term (say 30 years - since most mortgages are for 30 years) on their balance sheet - they may not lose as much money as they would if they tried to liquidate these investments in the short term.
Financial Institutions typically borrow short term to invest in long term investments and keep renewing the short term borrowings - since the underlying investment has become illiquid - it has become difficult to raise financing against it. the govt, howver, can take a long term view and be patient....who knows.....in the end - the Govt may actually come out with positive cash flow at the end of all this mess. So, the bail-out plan may not be as bad an idea as media is portraying it to be.........in short-term - it does take US into further indebtedness.
I already have a GC - so this debate does not impact me personally - but this is against the basic principals of natural justice.......GC applicants were placed into certain EB categories based on job descriptions and qualifications and then within queues assigned priority dates based on certain logic and are currently being approved based on PD and country quotas..........all these rules were known and published prior to companies and people applying for these GCs.....
No matter what the incremental benefit is, I think its blatantly unfair (like it was blatantly unfair to push some people to labor backlog centers and approving people with later PDs first) to change the rules of engagement and prioritization midway through the process and give preference to someone based on an ability to invest certain $$s in an house.......buying a house is a commercial and lifestyle decision........should not be a precursor to a USCIS adjudication.......

Yes it will, unless there are more EB1I visas which could spill over to EB2I, in which case EB2I will move ahead of EB3I. But that guy has also said that the spill over may not happen because of the demand for EB1I.
Its just unbelievable that EB2I and EB3I (i.e. the persons who have PD when the numbers were calculated) will have to wait for about 19 years to get their GCs. We HAVE to do something about this.
I agree with you sledge_hammer. We have to do something about this. The easiest and most convenient thing that we can all start with is to support IV; how can IV fight for us with mere $3,200 a month? Folks, please wake up and smell the coffee; please contribute for your own cause.

I am not fighting with you believe it or not - just that some things said on this forum are just downright nasty. FYI though.. the Congo WAS colonized and terrorized by the Europeans. Hear of the Belgian Congo?? I don't know about Sierra Leone though.

I used to live in Maryland and was so tired of being careful when using words starting with "black*", "Afro*", "slave*", etc. Everything was always tended to be interpreted as implication, that someone is inferior to someone, etc. etc. The only solution was just to keep my mouth shut. And this is in country which is so proud of "free speech".
OK, I stand corrected, maybe not "colonized", but "settled" (still it's a wrong term - "immigrated"? Natives didn't have any immigration laws, though, so Europeans didn't brake any law). Europeans came here to build cities and live here. Congo was colonized for trading (robbing if you wish) purposes, slave trade, etc. That's the key difference.
But we are far from ROW/India+China debate :) I'm from ROW and it's my 8th year in the US, and all these years I'm "enjoying" not having any quota.

Why not just move on if somebody says no or gives a excuse to the IBO's, if anybody does

What you are asking for is "verticle spill" till it comes to EB3 ROW and then spill it "horizontally" to EB3 I, then only EB3 I would benefit. (although USCIS did this in the past, there is no logic that can explain it)
If they re-interprete the spill and make it verticle, it will go EB2 ROW -> EB 3 ROW -> EB2 I -> EB3 I (pure verticle spill) ; In this case, EB3 I gets nothing but EB2 I looses with some benefit to EB3 ROW. And remember, verticle spill from ROW will need to go equally to India and China...
At the end of the day, if you look at the big picture, I think horizontal or verticle spills are not likely to make any difference to the backlog of EB3 I. What we need is more visa number. Mechanism (recapture, STEM exemption etc) does not matter. Also we neet to unite and work on getting our agenda in the CIR that is likely to be awakened once elections are over.

The question doesn't arise because he is SRK or APJ or in future Manmohan singh. The point is does it take TWO HOURS to find the identity of the person. How did you feel when you were questioned for an hour at the POE even after staying here for 9 years and stay in US legally and paying taxes etc.. can't they have better immigration procedures in place to identify legal from illegal (LIKE biometric finger printing, etc). They have this sophisticated computer information network.. if you give your SSN they can find any data they want.. about your employer, about your pay roll, your taxes etc.. then why this delay at POE to idenfity geniune people from entering US. These actions look totally racist to me. Don't you think these (US) people know how to improve this system.. they can but there is no will to do so.. Just look at priority dates how they swing +5 years to -5 years every year (2000 to 2005). It looks like someone just picks any year between 2000 to 2005 based on his mood. Can't this developed country have a software system to predict visa number availability or to predict how the dates should advance and by how much... this is want really sucks.. this so called developed country doesn't have a system in place for immigration issues.. Just look at the people who got their green cards who's priority dates were 2006 and people from 2002 or 2003 are still waiting.. how can their system (software) allow people with older dates to wait while someone with PD 2006 get their GC.. Things can be better managed and controlled with total transperancy but there is no WILL to do so.. i am not sure if IV can play any role in pushing some reforms to have a better system in place. There was another thread discussing about IO officers visting to employee office to find geniune applications and for more details.. this is simple waste of money and resources with SSN can give you almost 90% of the details.... overall the frustration is about the System and not about SRK or APJ.
While proponents would mask this whole backlog issue as something purposefully done by the "system" I don't buy it. It is a proven disaster.

I was among the very first to predict forward movement of EB2 (8 months back when most of the information available suggested no movement). Looking at September approvals i will see there will be very few cases pending from 2002-2004 for EB2 (those pending will be cleared in next few months since PD will stay current).
My estimate is that
EB2-India pending applications with PD older than Dec-2004 no more than 2000.
EB2 India had used 8000-10000 visa in 2009 (5000-7000 in Sept 2009 alone)
Holding following assumptions we will see more forward movement in coming months and whole of 2010 fiscal year.
Slow improvement in economy (fewer new applications from EB2-ROW and EB1)
PERM applications stay stuck (as they are very few approvals in last 12 months)
CIS is force to allocate visa every quarter (leading to large spill-over)
Fewer EB3 to EB2 porting
CIS has prudently processed most old cases (pending for name-checks) and also pre-adjucated most cases filled in 2007-2008. So if they have visa numbers pending we should see big movment in Dec 2009 Visa Bulletin. This movement could cover all EB2-I 2005 cases in next two quarters (by March 2010). How explained below

When you have a Canadian PR, you're still a citizen of your native country. Therefore, you can't get TN status (NAFTA) to enter the USA and work here as a Canadian citizen. However, my Russian friend (he is a Canadian PR, about to apply for citizenship) got a 10-year US business visa (B-1) and can enter the USA at any time. When you're a landed immigrant in Canada, US consulates start treating you very different.
