The MBPs get updated far more often than the MP, so they "age" quicker, decreasing their resale value. Almost two MBPs a year, whereas the Mac Pro gets update every what, 18 months?
The fact that you can't upgrade a notebook has already been said.
Pop in two 3GHz quad cores, 16GB RAM, a 5870 and some SSDs in a 2006 Mac Pro and you still have a more than decent machine for the vast majority of tasks.
A 2006MBP, however, is pretty much done these days. A maximum of 2GB RAM and a SATA 1.5Gb/s interface make this machine not impossible to upgrade, by beyond practicality.

There are lots of guides I know need to exist, but I don't personally know enough to write them. Should we make a "Requested Guides" page that lets knowledgeable visitors follow the empty link to create the guide?
* Change Root Password
* Adding and Removing Menu items
stuff like that?

I guess I meant to say that "Apple Software" shouldn't be the *only* category something, say iTunes, should be in.
[[Category: Audio]]
[[Category: Apple Software]]
Ah. Yes, more categories like "Audio Software" and the like makes sense to me.

I was stocking games today at work and I noticed a few games that are new release.
Wii:
Godfather
Cooking Mama
Blazing Angels
PS2 and PSP:
Test Drive Unlimited (YESSS!!!)
PS3:
Godfather
And a few other NDS games. Forgot what they were.
Anybody know about these titles specifically the Wii ported games?

I just received my quote from the "Business Manager" at the local Apple store. I have to purchase through my wife's company so the quote is just for the 12" iBook without any upgrades.
However, I would like to upgrade to the 60gb drive. When I bring them the company check do you think I can just add the upgrade then and pay the difference myself. I think it's only $50 for the upgrade.
Also, if I am able to upgrade, do I have to wait long for the upgrade?
Thanks for your help. I am getting ready to purchase my first iBook and I'm not very familiar with dealing with Apple.

I think we'll see differences in capabilities, the 360 has a great general purpose processor with 3 cores and great graphics card, the PS3 has a good graphics card but the processor is what it shines.
360 games might look better but its possible PS3 games might have more stuff going on and or better physic models at the expense of lower resolutions and possibly less shader intensive graphic effects.
I mean really the hardware in these two is completely different and cell is quite an specialized architecture.
Maybe we should have this argument 2 years from now, right now X360 and PS3 have exact graphics (the difference is neglible unless looking hard for it side by side).
In any case, any console purchase should be based on what games it can run not console's performance.

gnasher729 gave a great idea that would give you a command you could copy and paste to the terminal to see what's going on. I'll give an additional hint:
the & means something special to the shell. It means "run that command i just gave you in the background". You can quote parameters that might contain such a character, or escape it with \.

G5 Powerbooks aren't coming out time soon, while the heat output of the 970 has been somewhat alleviated by the 970FX, the system controller chip still produces a large amount of heat; removing it or using one operating a lower speed would defeat the point of using a 970 anyway. I expect the G4 powerbooks to hit 1.5 Ghz before the switch to the G5.

I dont think Apple will slap it into Powerbook, it just seems 2 big for it (phisical size). Remember, PBs are 1 inch think and are getting 20-40 % smaller with Intel!
Is it really that big? It measures about 1.8" by 1.8", and the package includes both GPU and 128 MB RAM. I forget how big 9700 was, but X1600 should be smaller.

Sure, in your mind it's always Apple's fault.
If you hate Apple so much why are you here?
no read what I was saying. I am not going to go with the standard MS is coping Apple crap that will be coming flying soon.
Hell Apple coping the flash game lay out more proves that the simple lay out used is kind of a standard long before Apple used it. It was shutting down the standard argument MS is coping.
BTW I would not even say Apple is really copy any one. It is just a simple layout and lets face it there are only so many ways to do that layout.

+1 for ifixit and I'm sure there are many others with the same opinion.
I have not had good luck with sunvalleytech. They shipped a faulty Powerbook G4 power brick and didn't respond to emails.

Now that we've upgraded the forum software (see announcement), we have the ability to define thread prefixes, which appear in front of a thread name in the forum display, or at the top of the page in a thread display.
Prefixes help classify threads within a forum. Unlike tags, they are selected from a pre-defined list.
Here's how thread prefixes work:

Hi,
I have an ftp upload problem. Ive had it ever since I bought my first mac, a powerbook, a year ago. I first trying using several free ftp programs (+ Transmit), but everytime i would upload a file to a folder it would just freeze immediately. so i went and bought Cute FTP Mac cause the demo rid this problem, but not entirely. It freezes immediately, but when I close connection and connect again, everything works. So now i have gotten into the habit of 'uploading, it freezing, me closing and re-opening the connection', and then it working. This is a really long and annoying way to go about things. Anybody have a clue as to what is going on?
