Hi all,
I have been following this thread and some posts suggest that the Observation on the passport for correcting the name is sufficient. Here is my situation:
My passport had the name as:
Surname: A***********
Given name: P****
The correct name should be (since this is how I use it in the US now and it applies to all my docs here - GC, DL, school records, everywhere).
Surname: P****
Given name: A***********
I got this corrected in the Indian passport through an "Observation" on Page 3 which states:
The name of the passport holder appearing on Page 1 has been corrected to read as:
Surname: P****
Given name: A***********
Since this is not a "name change" as such but simply a re-alignment of the last and first names (often a source of confusion from India), I hope this is sufficient and I don't have to go through a name change to get a new passport book issued.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I am waiting for someone from IV core to endorse the idea.
This was discussed in a conference call with core today - a bunch of flowers may not even reach the intended person. Such a campaign may look good in movies only.
The concept of IV is to communicate in the most effective manner. Do please come up with innovative ideas - and see how best we can utilize them.

i think v r f'ed up big time; part of the problem was setting our hopes higher.
on another note, if some ppl call this a rumor, I would say this is US and "almost all" rumors in US are true.
I just hope its not true.

I am aware of the issue. The only thing I can take care of right now is keep track of the revisions, and I am keeping track of them. (Thanks for the headup sweet_jungle)

If you have time for you visa application then get a new passort with name correction, or you can say them to put a observation on second page of the passport which can be done 1-2 days.

Well IV support to this bill does not have my support.
But IV will do what it has to do.
So i cannot wish you all the best because i disagree with the approach
Let us see how things will pan out
we don't have to agree and support everything. IV does what benefits majority of the people (directly or indirectly)
No worries with the luck, If I was lucky, I would have had my GC by now.

In EB2 I, is 2003 all clear? I have not seen anybody (except one who had Dec 03 ...sorry forgot the user id). So is it safe to assume that 2004 is the oldest.

Those of you who dont believe IV is not spending the money collected judiciously, I completely understand your concern. please attend one event and you see for yourself and then decide if you want to continue the donations. After seeing the usage of resources and efforts IV is putting i am sure you will be convinced . For ex; for this Event IV had to book Hyatt hotel conference room for 3 days in washington DC for co-ordinating and training the members who are meeting the lawmakers.Everything is expensive in DC as you may have noticed.
We are all professionals in IV. We dont want to make a living out of deceiving people. we all have our day jobs . we are trying to achieve a common goal which will benifit a lot of people on this forum and those who are not in this forum also .
you may be wondering why i am suddenly becoming more active and writing so many posts. you are right i had never written so many posts before and I am not one of teh core IV as well. After attending the event i realized how many other competing groups are aiming for the same pie ie. green cards for various categories through lobbying efforts on the hill. if we dont rise up and fight for our piece of the pie, other groups will eat our piece and leave the emply box for us .
Again do actively participate and give it a try you will be satisfied with the outcome.

Finally got the email today, Aug 13, 2009, from USCIS indicating that the card production has been ordered for me. No word yet about my wife's GC. Case still pending.
Relevant data for me:

Texas Service Center.
Short of divulging my social security number, I will be happy to answer any and all questions about my journey so far.

I understand that IV leadership is agains't lawsuits because they take time. However most of the timelines immigration lawsuits are of 1 to 2 years time.

This is a good idea. The truth is - to support a bill, you need hundreds of thousands of dollars and few million people supporting it. The agenda IV has, if couple of them get Washington's nod, we will all get GCs. The problem is getting them into congress and eventually getting it passed.
Can we propose a bill which would give us - the honest, sincere, law abiding aliens - a time bound path to Green Card and Citizenship?

but the categories and priorities were created to be based on the jobs too. and there are people in EB3 with bachelors degrees only. so what? it's meant for jobs that need a bachelors degree. it is indeed your misfortune to be in EB3.

Well, the original topic was the 'disadvantage' of oversubscribed v. other countries. What if we apply the same principal of equality of EB2 and EB3 applicants and remove these categories completely. That would mean that EB2-I wouldn't get any GCs for the next two or three years until EB3-I has caught up. Fair?
I don't want to get into the discussion if country ceilings are fair or not. If, however, it was suddenly removed, ROW filers who are only a few months away wouldn't get any GCs for the next few years. I haven't seen any opposing comment, suggesting that the meaning of the I in IV has changed.
Anyway, in my opinion, the best bet would be to try to recapture Visas and increase country ceilings or set a portion aside for heavily retrogressed countries.
